INEOS Has Spoken on Michael Carrick — And Manchester United Fans Should Pay Attention

‼️🔴 INEOS HAVE SPOKEN ON MICHAEL CARRICK — AND THIS SHOULD MATTER TO EVERY MANCHESTER UNITED FAN

The pressure surrounding Michael Carrick has increased dramatically after Manchester United’s difficult start to the 2026/27 season.

But amid the criticism, speculation and growing calls for change, there is one important factor that Manchester United supporters should not ignore: INEOS are reportedly willing to give Carrick time.

For me, that is exactly the approach Manchester United should be taking right now.

Carrick was not appointed permanently because of one good performance or one lucky run. He earned the job after taking United to Champions League qualification and a third-place Premier League finish during his interim spell. The club subsequently handed him a contract running until 2028.

So why should everything suddenly change because of a difficult opening to the new campaign?

Carrick Is Going Through His First Real Test

Let’s be honest: Carrick’s current situation is not perfect.

United have struggled for consistency, and Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton made the situation even more frustrating.

United led Brighton 2-0 inside the opening 10 minutes but eventually lost 3-2 at Old Trafford. Carrick himself accepted responsibility for the collapse and admitted that the team must respond quickly.

That criticism is completely understandable.

But there is a difference between demanding improvement from a manager and deciding that the manager should immediately be removed.

In my opinion, Manchester United need to show some patience.

Carrick has already demonstrated that he can get this team playing football and competing at a high level. The challenge now is proving that he can respond when things are going badly.

And that is exactly what he should be judged on.

INEOS Must Stand Behind Its Own Decision

This is where INEOS comes into the picture.

If the club genuinely believed Carrick was the right man to lead Manchester United into the future when they gave him a contract until 2028, then the first serious period of adversity should not automatically lead to panic.

Reports have suggested that INEOS are willing to give Carrick time despite the frustrating beginning to the campaign.

Personally, I think that is important.

Manchester United have spent years changing managers whenever things became difficult. Yet the constant managerial changes have not produced the sustained stability supporters want.

At some point, the club has to allow a manager to actually build something.

But Carrick Has To Respond

Supporting Carrick does not mean pretending everything is perfect.

It isn’t.

The Brighton defeat exposed serious problems, particularly the way United surrendered control of a match they had started so strongly.

Carrick has already admitted responsibility, and now comes the most important part: the response.

The upcoming matches will tell us far more about Carrick than the current criticism does.

Can he fix the defensive problems?

Can he improve United’s consistency?

Can he make the right tactical adjustments?

Can he get the players responding after disappointing results?

Those are the questions that matter.

My Opinion: Don’t Panic Yet

I believe Manchester United should resist the temptation to make another knee-jerk managerial decision.

Carrick has a contract until 2028, Champions League qualification on his record and a previous period where he demonstrated that he could transform United’s fortunes.

That doesn’t guarantee success.

But it does justify giving him an opportunity to correct the current problems.

INEOS have made their decision.

Now they need to back that decision with consistency.

And Carrick, in return, needs to repay that faith on the pitch.

The pressure is real. The criticism is understandable. But Manchester United should not allow one difficult period to erase everything Carrick achieved to earn the permanent job in the first place.

For me, this is the moment to see what Michael Carrick is really made of.

If he can turn this situation around, this difficult period could eventually become one of the most important stages of his Manchester United managerial career.

🔴 Carrick has the contract. INEOS appear willing to give him time. Now the responsibility is on the manager and his players to deliver.

What do you think? Should INEOS continue backing Michael Carrick, or has the pressure reached a point where Manchester United need to consider a change?
