Manchester United Must Trust Yoro and Šeško to Build the Future
Manchester United’s decision to build for the future was one of the most exciting aspects of the club’s recent recruitment strategy.
Players such as Leny Yoro and Benjamin Šeško were not signed simply to provide squad depth. They were brought in with the expectation that they could become important players for Manchester United for many years to come.
That is why their development and involvement in the first team will be crucial.
There is a growing concern that both young players are currently competing for minutes depending on whether a more experienced player is available, in form, or performing well.
And while competition for places is healthy, there is an argument that United need to give their young stars a clearer pathway into the starting XI.
Yoro and Šeško Need Trust
Young players are almost never going to develop perfectly.
They will make mistakes. They will have poor games. They will sometimes struggle against experienced opponents. But those experiences are part of becoming a top-level footballer.
If Manchester United genuinely see Yoro and Šeško as cornerstone players for the project, they need to be given opportunities to play alongside established senior players.
Yoro, for example, needs regular exposure to Premier League football and high-pressure matches if he is eventually expected to become one of United’s defensive leaders.
The same applies to Šeško.
The Slovenian striker needs minutes, responsibility and consistency to fully understand the demands of leading Manchester United’s attack.
Mistakes Are Part of the Process
There will inevitably be moments when one of them makes a mistake and costs the team.
That shouldn’t automatically mean they are dropped.
A young player can learn more from making a mistake in a competitive match, receiving guidance from experienced teammates and then getting another opportunity than from constantly watching from the bench.
That doesn’t mean young players should receive guaranteed starting places regardless of performances.
Rather, there needs to be a balance between competition and development.
Senior players should provide experience and stability, while the younger players should gradually take on more responsibility.
United Need to Build a Young Core
Manchester United cannot build a successful long-term project simply by constantly relying on established players.
The club needs to develop a core of young footballers who can eventually become the backbone of the team.
Yoro and Šeško have the potential to be part of that core.
If Michael Carrick and the coaching staff believe they have the quality to become elite players, then the club must be willing to invest in their development—not only financially, but also through playing time and trust.
The goal shouldn’t simply be to win the next match.
It should also be to create a Manchester United team capable of competing at the highest level for years to come.
Let Yoro and Šeško play. Let them make mistakes. Let them learn alongside the senior players. And most importantly, let them grow into the roles Manchester United signed them to eventually occupy.
That is how a genuine young core is built.
