🚨 WOULD YOU TAKE SERGIO RAMOS AT MANCHESTER UNITED RIGHT NOW?
Free agent. No transfer fee. But would Manchester United actually benefit from signing Sergio Ramos?
That is the question currently dividing football fans.
The legendary Spanish defender remains one of the most decorated centre-backs of his generation. Ramos has won almost everything there is to win in football, including the Champions League, World Cup and European Championship.
But Manchester United are not signing the Ramos of 2014.
They would be signing an experienced defender at the latter stage of his career.
🔴 No Transfer Fee — So Why Not?
The biggest attraction is obvious.
Ramos is available as a free agent.
Manchester United would not have to spend a transfer fee to bring him to Old Trafford. More importantly, he could potentially provide something the squad cannot simply buy with money — experience and leadership.
Ramos has played in enormous matches throughout his career and knows what it takes to handle pressure.
For a young Manchester United squad, having a player with that level of experience around the dressing room could be valuable.
🧠 But Experience Isn’t Everything
There is another side to the argument.
Manchester United’s defensive problems cannot simply be solved by adding a famous name.
The club need defenders who can consistently handle the physical demands of the Premier League, recover quickly, defend large spaces and remain available throughout a long season.
At this stage of Ramos’ career, there would inevitably be questions about his pace, fitness and ability to cope with the intensity of English football.
And those questions become even more important if Carrick wants his team to defend aggressively and play with a high defensive line.
👀 What Could Ramos Actually Offer?
If Manchester United were to sign him, Ramos would probably be most valuable as an experienced squad option rather than someone expected to start every Premier League match.
His mentality could also be useful.
United have endured plenty of difficult moments over recent seasons, and Ramos has spent his entire career dealing with pressure at the highest level.
He could potentially help younger defenders develop their understanding of positioning, leadership and game management.
But that does not necessarily mean United should make the move.
🔥 My Verdict: NO
Personally, I would not sign Sergio Ramos for Manchester United right now.
Not because he wasn’t an incredible defender.
He absolutely was.
But United should be thinking about building a defence for the next three to five years, rather than bringing in another short-term solution.
If Ramos were several years younger, the answer would be completely different.
The fact that he is available for free makes the conversation interesting, but “free” does not automatically mean “good value.”
Manchester United should focus on finding defenders who can become important pieces of Carrick’s team for years to come.
