🔴 Leny Yoro’s Ability Hasn’t Disappeared — Manchester United Must Be Patient
Leny Yoro was not signed by Manchester United by accident.
When United secured the French defender, some of Europe’s biggest clubs were reportedly monitoring him closely, with Yoro viewed as one of the most exciting young centre-back prospects in world football.
That reputation wasn’t created overnight.
At Lille, Yoro showed maturity, composure on the ball, athleticism and an ability to defend despite his young age. Those qualities convinced Manchester United to invest heavily in a player they believed could become an elite defender for many years to come.
💎 Talent Doesn’t Simply Disappear
Yoro’s performances have understandably attracted criticism at times, particularly when mistakes have directly contributed to goals.
But one important point needs to be remembered: a young player’s ability doesn’t disappear because of a difficult spell.
Yoro is still only at the beginning of his senior career. Centre-back is a position where experience, positioning, decision-making and physical development can make an enormous difference.
He is learning all of those things at the highest level.
The expectation surrounding him should therefore be balanced. United didn’t sign Yoro because they expected a finished world-class centre-back from day one. They signed him because they believed he had the qualities to develop into one.
🔥 The Ceiling Is Still Extremely High
Yoro possesses many of the traits modern elite defenders need.
He is comfortable with the ball, possesses impressive athleticism for a centre-back and has the physical tools to compete at the highest level.
What he needs now is consistency.
He needs regular football, a stable defensive structure and the freedom to learn from mistakes without every error becoming a verdict on his entire career.
That’s where Manchester United also have a responsibility.
🧠 Patience Could Pay Off
We’ve seen countless young players struggle during the early stages of their careers before eventually becoming excellent footballers.
Yoro deserves that same patience.
There will be mistakes. There will be difficult matches. There will be moments when supporters question a decision or performance.
But judging a player of Yoro’s age solely on what happens today risks ignoring why United were so determined to sign him in the first place.
The talent is still there. The potential is still there.
Now it’s about giving Leny Yoro the environment and time needed to fulfil it.
If United remain patient, there’s every reason to believe the club could eventually have an elite centre-back on their hands. 🔴💎
Don’t write Leny Yoro off. His best years are still ahead of him.
