Carrick impressed by Lacey’s defensive contribution
While Lacey’s assist for the winning goal was the major talking point, Carrick was equally pleased with the youngster’s contribution on the defensive side of the game.
The Manchester United manager revealed that he was particularly impressed with Lacey’s willingness to track back and help the team when he was required to defend at right-back.
Carrick believes that the young winger’s performance demonstrated his understanding of the team’s responsibilities and his willingness to put the collective interest ahead of individual recognition.
“I was just as happy seeing him defending as a right-back when we needed that. I was just as pleased to see him do that on the defensive side,” Carrick explained.
His comments suggest that Lacey’s ability to contribute in different areas of the pitch could become an important asset for Manchester United as the season progresses.
