BREAKING: Matheus Cunha Could Face Extended Ban After Controversial Celebration Incident

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha could face further disciplinary action after allegedly attempting to return to the pitch following his red card during Tuesday’s victory over Roma.

The Brazilian was sent off during the match and was expected to leave the field and head to the dressing room. However, reports claim Cunha attempted to rejoin his teammates to celebrate the final whistle, potentially putting himself and Manchester United at risk of further punishment.

IFAB Rules Could Complicate Cunha’s Situation

According to Law 12 of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), players who receive a red card must leave the pitch and proceed to the dressing room or a spectator area.

The law also states that a dismissed player who re-enters the field of play, including to celebrate a victory, may be considered to have breached the Laws of the Game and could face additional disciplinary action.

If UEFA determines that Cunha violated these regulations, the Manchester United forward could face an extended suspension.

Manchester United Could Also Face a Fine

Cunha is already expected to miss Manchester United’s upcoming Champions League fixture against Sporting CP because of his red card.

However, the potential additional punishment could see the Brazilian miss further matches, depending on the outcome of any disciplinary investigation.

Manchester United could also face a financial penalty if UEFA decides that the incident warrants further action.

The situation is an unwanted development for Michael Carrick, who will be hoping to have his attacking options available as Manchester United continue their European campaign.

What do you think? Should Matheus Cunha receive an extended ban for attempting to celebrate with his teammates after being sent off?
