Andrey Santos Faces Fierce Midfield Battle as Manchester United’s Options Keep Growing

💰🔥 Andrey Santos Faces Fierce Midfield Battle as Manchester United’s Options Keep Growing

Manchester United’s midfield competition is becoming one of the most interesting selection battles for Michael Carrick this season.

The Red Devils have invested heavily in the middle of the pitch, but with several talented players competing for limited places, one of the biggest questions now surrounds Andrey Santos.

United spent around £48 million to bring Santos into the squad, making it clear that the Brazilian midfielder is regarded as an important part of the club’s long-term plans.

However, getting regular minutes could prove difficult with the competition around him.

👀 United Have Created Serious Competition

Manchester United strengthened their midfield during the summer, adding Santos and Youri Tielemans, before making another major investment in Carlos Baleba.

Baleba arrived from Brighton in a deal that could eventually reach around £70 million, adding another powerful option to Carrick’s midfield.

The problem is that there are only so many positions available.

Kobbie Mainoo has also forced himself back into the conversation after producing impressive displays. His passing range, composure and ability to dictate the rhythm of matches have made him increasingly difficult for Carrick to overlook.

Suddenly, the manager has a very good problem—but also a difficult one.

🇧🇷 Where Does Santos Fit?

Santos needs regular football if he is going to fulfil his potential at Old Trafford.

Spending close to £50 million on a young midfielder suggests that United expect him to eventually become an important player rather than simply remain a squad option.

But competition for places means Santos may have to be patient.

Tielemans offers technical quality and experience, Mainoo has shown that he can control games from midfield, while Baleba is expected to provide the physicality and defensive strength that United wanted when they pursued him.

Once Baleba returns from his ankle problem, Carrick could face some very difficult selection decisions.

🔥 Baleba’s Return Could Change Everything

Baleba has yet to make his competitive debut for United because of his injury.

His return is reportedly being targeted for after the international break, meaning Carrick could soon have another major midfield option available.

That could significantly change the competition.

If Mainoo continues performing at a high level, dropping him becomes difficult.

If Tielemans maintains his form, leaving him out also becomes a tough decision.

And if Baleba delivers the physical presence and defensive protection United paid heavily for, he will surely demand a place in the team.

That leaves Santos facing perhaps the biggest battle of them all.

🧩 Carrick’s Tactical Challenge

The answer may not necessarily be to simply choose one player and sacrifice another.

Carrick could potentially find a tactical setup that allows multiple midfielders to operate together depending on the opponent and the demands of the game.

United will have plenty of fixtures across the Premier League, Champions League and domestic competitions, so rotation should naturally become important.

That could give Santos opportunities to establish himself.

But when everyone is fit and Carrick is selecting his strongest XI, the competition could be extremely intense.

The midfield options are clear:

🔴 Kobbie Mainoo
🔴 Andrey Santos
🔴 Youri Tielemans
🔴 Carlos Baleba

Four talented midfielders, but only a limited number of starting positions.

For a club trying to build a stronger squad, that competition is a positive.

For an individual player trying to establish himself, however, it can be frustrating.

🔴 United Have a Good Problem—But Carrick Must Manage It Carefully

The worst thing Manchester United could do would be to allow a major investment like Santos to stagnate on the bench.

At the same time, the club cannot justify leaving other talented players out simply because of their transfer fee.

Carrick’s job will be to manage the squad, develop the younger players and ensure everyone receives meaningful opportunities.

If he gets that balance right, United could have an extremely exciting midfield for years to come.

Santos, Mainoo and Baleba are all young enough to become major figures in the team’s future, while Tielemans provides valuable experience and technical quality.

The challenge now is finding the right combination.

So, when Carlos Baleba is fully fit, who should Carrick leave out of his strongest midfield? 👀🔴

🔥 Mainoo
🔥 Santos
🔥 Tielemans
🔥 Or should Carrick change the system and find a way to accommodate more than one of them?

The midfield battle at Old Trafford is about to get very interesting. 😮‍💨🔥
