🔴 Dorgu or Shaw? Who Should Start at Left-Back Against Man City?
Manchester United have a huge decision to make at left-back ahead of the Manchester derby.
The question is simple: should Michael Carrick trust Patrick Dorgu or go with Luke Shaw against Manchester City? 🤔
For me, there is only one answer — Dorgu should start.
⚡ Why Dorgu makes more sense
Manchester City are exactly the type of opponent where United need athleticism, intensity and the ability to recover quickly when possession is lost.
Dorgu offers all three.
The young full-back has the physicality to deal with City’s wide players and the pace to recover when United’s defensive shape is broken. His willingness to push forward also gives United another outlet when they win the ball.
More importantly, Dorgu looks increasingly comfortable in the position.
This isn’t about saying Shaw is a bad player. Far from it. When fully fit and playing at his best, Shaw brings experience, composure and quality that United can certainly benefit from.
But against City, the game could be played at an extremely high tempo, and I would rather have Dorgu’s energy and recovery pace available from the first whistle.
🧠 Carrick has to get this right
This is one of those matches where the smallest tactical decision can make a huge difference.
If City dominate possession, United’s full-backs will have to defend for long periods while also being ready to attack the space behind City’s defensive line.
Dorgu’s physical profile could be extremely useful in that situation.
And if United manage to win the ball and break quickly, having an energetic left-back capable of driving forward could give City another problem to worry about.
🔴 My choice: Dorgu
If I’m picking the starting XI, Patrick Dorgu starts at left-back.
Shaw would be an excellent option to have on the bench, particularly if Carrick wants experience later in the match.
But from the opening minute, I want Dorgu’s pace, power and aggression.
Manchester derbies are not games where you can afford to start slowly.
Dorgu at left-back. Let’s go. 🔴🔥
