🟥 Manchester United’s Full-Back Problem Is Becoming Impossible to Ignore

Manchester United’s disappointing performance has once again exposed an issue that has been discussed repeatedly but still hasn’t been properly addressed: the full-back positions are simply not good enough for the level this club wants to compete at.

Yes, the refereeing decisions played a part in the result, and United fans have every right to question some of the calls. But blaming the officials alone would be ignoring another major problem that was visible on the pitch.

❎ The full-backs remain a serious concern

In high-intensity matches, full-backs are expected to provide much more than defensive cover.

They need to defend one-on-one, handle fast wingers, support the build-up, provide width, recover quickly and contribute consistently in possession.

Unfortunately, United still don’t look convincing enough in those areas.

Against strong opposition, weaknesses at full-back can become especially obvious because opponents deliberately target those positions.

And when both sides of the defence are struggling simultaneously, the entire team can become vulnerable.

🔴 How long can the board ignore this?

This is where the responsibility falls on the club’s recruitment structure.

Manchester United cannot continue hoping that the problem will somehow disappear.

If the club already knows that the full-back positions need strengthening, then action needs to be taken before the situation becomes an even bigger problem.

Waiting until the squad is forced into another emergency rebuild could make things considerably more difficult.

United have spent huge amounts of money rebuilding the squad over the years, yet there are still obvious weaknesses in key positions.

That has to change.

🔥 This isn’t about blaming one player

The criticism shouldn’t be directed at one individual.

Football is a team sport, and poor performances usually have several contributing factors.

But identifying weaknesses is the first step toward fixing them.

If Manchester United want to compete consistently at the highest level, the club needs full-backs who can survive the intensity of the biggest matches and give the team quality at both ends of the pitch.

Because right now, this is starting to look less like a temporary problem and more like a structural weakness.

And the longer United wait, the harder—and potentially more expensive—it could become to fix.

Do you think Manchester United urgently need to strengthen both full-back positions? Or are the current players good enough with the right tactical setup?

🔴 What do you think, United fans?
