And that is where Mbeumo could become extremely important.

Haaland is already a world-class goalscorer.

Mbeumo doesn’t need to outscore Haaland individually to have a bigger impact on the derby. If he can stretch City’s defence, create chances, win dangerous duels and contribute a goal or assist, he could become one of the most important players on the pitch.

Michael Carrick will also understand that the derby cannot be approached with fear.
Manchester United need to respect City’s quality, but they also need to make City uncomfortable.
